The Authority works with private developers to revitalize blighted, tax-reverted and functionally obso- lete properties in Leelanau County. Financial tools include grant fund- ing and tax increment  nancing. Brown eld Redevelopment Board is appointed by the Leelanau County Board of Commissioners and includes Kathy Egan; Chet Janik, county administrator; Patricia Soutas-Little, commission- er; Richard Foster; Dennis Bushey, John Arens.

Land banks are public authori- ties created to acquire, hold,
manage and develop tax-fore- closed property, as well as other vacant, blighted, obsolete and abandoned properties.
In Leelanau County, members are John A. Gallagher III, chair; Trudy Galla, secretary; Chet Janik, treasurer; and Patricia Soutas-Little, Richard Foster, and Dan Heinz.
PLANNING COMMISSION

The Leelanau County Planning Commission’s primary job is to oversee preparation and imple- ment of the County Master Plan. Commissioners also review changes to local zoning laws pro- posed by townships and villages in the county. Members are Victor Goldschmidt, chair; Melinda Lautner, county commissioner; Gail Carlson; Eric Winkelman; Dan Hubbell; David McCulloch; Robert Miller; Tom Nixon; Casey Noonan; Matt Walter and Steve Yoder.
PARKS AND

Leelanau County owns three parks that fall under the jurisdic- tion of the Parks and Recreation
Commission. They are Old Settler’s Picnic Grounds in Empire Township, Myles Kimmerly County Park in Kasson Township and Veronica Valley County Park. The Parks and Recreation Commission has been updating master plans for all three parks. It also proposes park rule and policy changes to the County Board of Commissioners. Members include Casey Noonan, chairman; Dave Barrons, vice chairman; Steve Christensen, secretary; Don Frerichs; Melinda Lautner; John Popa; Kyle Trevas; Jon Walter, Ty Wessell and Todd Yeomans.
SOLID WASTE COUNCIL

The Leelanau County Solid Waste Council oversees the recy- cling efforts in Leelanau County. The council is also charged with updating and carrying out the Solid Waste Management Plan. Members include Bill Perkins, chair; Marcia Harris, vice chair; Jim Palmer, chair pro tem; Mark Bevelhymer; Tim Bolin; Pat Deering; Amanda Elliott; Andrew Gale; Melinda Lautner; Tom MacDonald; David McCulloch; Carrie Sharp; Kathleen Wiejaczka and John Fletcher.
