Out on the ‘little finger’ The stalwart lighthouse stands, One, somehow, loves to linger Among the rock and sands.
A wish to be a ‘tender
A water in the night; Throughout the storms — to render A soft and mellow lilght
And with its yellow beaming
To guide the sailor home.
— A portion of the poem, “The Guardian of Light,” which was written by Northport resident Myra Hawkins on Aug. 20, 1952. The poem was written for lighthouse keepers John and Evelyn Johnson, and was included in “Images of America, Grand Traverse Lighthouse.” The book was published by the Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum.
