Back taxes

lawsuit

Local governments are pushing against the county’s effort to collect back taxes related to the BayView development, questioning how much of the money is really owed.
Officials of several units of government in the Suttons Bay community this week were consider- ing filing what was termed a “friendly lawsuit” against Leelanau County over the county’s requirement that they pay back the county’s Delinquent Tax Revolving Fund (DTRF).
A judge’s decision, they say, may be required for officials on both sides of the issue to sort out the unprecedented legal and financial mess that resulted from years of unpaid taxes associated

Carole Roach, chairman of the Glen Lake Woman’s Club flag-raising ceremony on Monday, is pleased with the holiday forecast.
“It’s supposed to be 80 and clear with no rain,” said Roach, who has been keeping tabs on the forecast. “It’s going to be a wonderful day.”
The weather pattern this summer has been a moving target — one day hot and humid and cool and dry the next.
