Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Michigan Chapter — 929-3804, support group meets  rst Thursday of each month at Tendercare in Suttons Bay, 2 p.m. www.alz.org/gmc.

Parkinson’s Network North — 947-1946, 947-7389 or www.gtaparkinsonsgroup.org, meets the fourth Wednesday of each month at the TC Senior Center, 10 a.m. or  rst Tuesday at Munson Comm. Health Center at 6 p.m.
Grand Traverse Bay Area Stroke Club — 935-6380, meets the second Wednesday of each month from 2:30-4:30 at The Presbyterian Church, 701 Westminster Rd., Traverse City.
Munson Hospice Bereavement Support Group — is now holding a support group the second Monday of each month in Conference Room 1, at the Leelanau County Government Center at 11:30 a.m. For questions, contact Lisa Humphrey. 1-800-252-2065.

SENIOR SERVICES
Anne Kelly, a registered nurse with ShareCare, checks Bill Peace’s blood pressure at the Love Your Heart event — which was also National Wear Red Day — held in February at the Leelanau County Government Center. The event was sponsored by ShareCare and Leelanau County Senior Services — and received rave reviews by attendees.

A department within Leelanau County government, Senior Services is funded mostly through a dedicated millage approved by voters. It’s based in the Leelanau County governmental center building in Suttons Bay Township. Services offered, many through a voucher program, include foot care, medical transportation, Freedom Alert emergency pendant, medical equipment and emergency 911 phones.
Staff members include director April Missias, assistant director Nancy Begeman,  nance coordinator Cathy Hartesvelt and program assistant Armanda Krantz.
ShareCare of Leelanau — 256-0221.
ShareCare is based upon the premise that volunteer members of each generation can provide seniors with the help they need to remain independent. A sliding- scale membership fee system rewards people who sign up earlier in life. Services include access to a Registered Nurse for professional care, transportation to appointments, respite care, homemade or delivered meals, non-medical durable equipment and social and educational activities.
